Jack + Jazzy || Proposal
Introducing Jack and Jazzy! And man, do I have a lot to say about this one. I met Jazzy her freshman year of college. Specifically, her first night on campus at a trivia night. That year, she ended up being in the small group I led and we became fast friends. That Fall, on a trip to a missions conference, Jack and Jazzy started dating. I remember giving her such a hard time- asking when he would meet the family, if he was coming home with her for Christmas… and then, Jack did meet the family. Jazzy’s brother tragically passed away unexpectedly after Christmas that year, and Jack stepped up. He was there through all of it. And really, I could have told you then that this was a forever type of thing and not just a college fling.
Fast forward to Tuesday of last week, and I get a message from both Jazzy’s mom and sister. “Jack’s proposing!” Friday. He’s proposing Friday. (If you know Jack, this won’t surprise you at all that everything came together so quickly) Jack lives in Florida, by the way.. and she had no idea he was even coming to town. So the week went by while I actively avoided talking to Jazzy, and I drove to Austin and met up with Jack to photograph their engagement.
Concordia, the university we attended, is located on a nature preserve that is absolutely beautiful. It is also off limits to just the average student, but somehow Jack got permission to propose at one of the lakes located on the preserve. So we went down to “test out” the site he had in mind, and it was beautiful. (Also very warm. Because Austin.)
And then, the rain came.
So you might have heard on the news that a hurricane hit south Texas recently, yes? Well. It conveniently started pouring right before Jazzy was expected to arrive. We then scrambled to try and figure out a new location and how exactly to get across campus without getting soaked. Jack thought of a new location, and just as we were about to make a run for it, the heavens opened and someone in authority said “why don’t you take the tunnels?”
If you’re a Concordia student, past or present, you’ve heard about the mysterious tunnels that run beneath the campus, connecting all of the buildings. Maybe you’ve even seen the doors that say tunnel entrance. Let. Me. Tell. You. IT WAS THE COOLEST.
So we booked it, through the tunnels all the way across campus. We got to the correct building, went to the attic, and waited for Jazzy. Jack had decided to propose on the roof of one of the buildings, and the rest was history.
Jack and Jazzy are genuinely one of the sweetest couples I know. Their relationship is one that has seen peaks and valleys and has remained steadfast through it all. It is such an honor to be able to photograph intimate moments of peoples lives, but even more so when its people you love. Jack and Jaz, I love you both and am so excited for your future together. Congratulations, yall!
